Also from Grandma’s recipe box, written in her own hand, complete with some of her own inventive spelling.

Grandma’s Apple Crisp

  • 10 apples
  • 1 t. cinnamon
  • 1/2 t. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 c. flour
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • dash of salt
  • 1/2 c. butter (grandma’s recipe actually calls for margarine but I always use butter when I bake.)

Cut up apples into a greased pan (the large Pyrex 10×16 inch pan). Add water, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Make a fine crumb mixture of the sugar, flour, salt, and butter. I do this in my Kitchenaid mixer–just be careful not to overmix it or it will turn into a dough. Spread crumbly mixture over apples. Bake in uncovered pan about 35 minutes at 375°.

What? You thought I’d leave the creative spelling in there?
