Apple Dapple Cake

This recipe comes from Grandma’s recipe box. There were more recipes in the “cakes and cookies” category than all the other categories of food put together! Grandma’s dessert prowess was legendary and a lot of people ate delicious treats in her living room. She had an incredible gift for hospitality. Grandma and Grandpa lived their entire married lives just a few miles from a now-decommissioned naval air station. Every Sunday they invited servicemen home from church with them and fed them vast quantities of home-cooked food. Many of those young men (and later young women) kept in touch with Grandma and Grandpa for years. Personally, I suspect that it was the desserts that won their undying loyalty!

Apple Dapple Cake

  • 1 1/2 c. oil
  • 3 eggs
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 2 t. vanilla
  • 3 c. flour
  • 1 t. baking soda
  • 3 c. chopped apples
  • 1 c. chopped walnuts

Spray bundt pan with non-stick spray. Preheat oven to 350°. Combine oil, eggs, sugar, vanilla and mix well.

Add dry ingredients to creamed mix.

Bake for 1 hour. Before the cake cools, pour glaze over the top of it.

Glaze:

  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1/4 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. butter or margarine

Make glaze in saucepan while the cake is baking. Bring to boil and cook 3 minutes. Pour over hot cake.

  1. I remember eating that at one of her Sunday evening gatherings. It was delicious..but then everything she served was really good.
