December 21:
Many years ago, I spent two weeks with a young couple working up in northern British Columbia. While I was there, Sherri made sugar cookies one time and I could not stop eating them. Even though I was only 20 years old at the time, I had the vision for how important the perfect sugar cookie recipe really is and I got the recipe for them. I have never found another recipe I like better. These cookies melt in your mouth and are the best I can make.
Sherri’s Sugar Cookies
- 1 c. butter
- 1 c. oil (Hey, I never said they were health food!)
- 1 c. granulated sugar
- 1 c. powdered sugar
- 1 t. vanilla
- 1 t. soda
- 1 t. cream tartar
- 1 t. salt
- 4 c. flour
Mix all the ingredients together, following this order, adding things one at a time. Roll into logs and chill. Slice chilled dough into slices (1/8-1/4 inch thick) and bake at 375° on ungreased cookie sheet or parchment until they just start getting brown around the edges.
Let them melt in your mouth. And just TRY to eat only one!
