I want to write a few posts on the treasures I’m finding at our local Farmer’s Market. These posts are mainly for my NC High Country readers, but I also hope to inspire you to search out similar treasures at your own local farmer’s market. ‘Tis the season for lots of Farmer’s Market activity!
Here in the High Country, we have several Farmer’s Markets. My two favorites are Saturday morning in Boone, NC and Thursday, 4-6 PM in Blowing Rock, NC.
On Thursdays, from 4-6 PM, at the Blowing Rock market be sure to check out the delicious breads made by Owl Creek Breadworks. All the breads are lovingly created by baker, Bruce Ezzell. I highly recommend the pecan sticky buns and Chop Block to munch on while you visit the rest of the market. Here’s a list of all of Bruce’s products. His baked goods go FAST, so visit his table early during your Farmer’s Market visit.
If you have the time, take a moment to chat with Bruce; he knows an enormous amount of fascinating information about all things bread. Bruce also takes orders.

You are right. Local is the best way to go – of course local is relative. I’m in eastern NC – but I try to support NC businesses. With the local farmer’s markets, you can meet and talk with the artisans of your food. We sell honey and other products of the hive at our market in Clayton, NC. I hope to try Bruce’s bread in a couple months when Eastern Apiculture Society meets in Boone. Plus, Bruce is a friend of mine from ASU – so I know he’s a good guy! Go Bruce!
