Treasures at the Farmer’s Market: organic veggies

I love strolling through the Farmer’s Market on a sunny day, chatting with the different vendors, meeting new people, discovering new items that I haven’t seen before. It’s not unusual to discover vegetables I’ve never heard of or tasted before. It’s a mini-adventure that I look forward to each week.

The next treasure I want to point my High Country readers towards at the local farmer’s markets is the booth for Watauga River Farms. Charles Church works with App State in providing opportunities for App students to do internships on his all-organic farm for credit. This summer, my second son is one of those lucky interns, and he is learning SO MUCH!

The organic produce that Charles sells at several of the markets here in the High Country is pleasing to the eye and simply delicious. He also sells local, organic pork. It’s definitely worth looking for their booth at the market. Check out the Watauga River Farms website to learn about their greenhouses, where else they sell their products, and how they work with App State’s Tech department.

If you’ve found a wonderful treasure at your local farmer’s market, please let us know. We want to get the word out about Farmer’s Markets as a great source for fresh stuff!
