Planning Ahead for Christmas

Yes, it’s true. In 18 days, Christmas Eve will be upon us. I can hardly believe it. ACCKKK!!!!! I can hardly believe it! There.is.so.much.to.do. This happens to me every year. Every single year. This year, I’m going to try to plan ahead for the Christmas holidays in some of the same ways I planned ahead for Thanksgiving last month.

We’d like to invite you to join us in our preparation for Christmas here in the Kitchen. Christmas candle

Over the next couple of days, I’m going to review all the recipes for different Christmas goodies that I am absolutely determined to make this year. I’m going to start with three main categories.

  • 31 Days of Christmas Cookies: This is a great bunch of recipes (31, to be specific!) for every favorite Christmas cookie we can even imagine.
  • Christmas Gifts from the Kitchen: Over the years we’ve developed a handy list of fun things to give as gifts….all right here in the kitchen.
  • Ideas for Planning Christmas dinners: if Thanksgiving is traditional, Christmas dinner is a no-holds-barred affair. There’s just no telling what fabulous food might show up on our Christmas menus.

One of the biggest secrets to keeping the Christmas season manageable for me is figuring out what is reasonable. It’s not reasonable to think I’m going to hand decorate 900 cookie-cutter Christmas cookies. It’s not reasonable to think that I can suddenly conjure up enough homemade jam to give as gifts if I haven’t planned for it back during those summer months. If I didn’t, in fact, plan for it last summer, then I’m not going to waste an iota of stress over the thought of homemade jams for all the aunties. Nope, I will just move on to other things.

Christmas drum ornamentI have some ideas for cool gifts from the kitchen that I’ll be writing about over the week or so. I also just got my hands on a decorated Christmas cookie recipe that is reputed to be just amazing. I’m always on the lookout for new tasty treats at this time of your, so check back often. Laura and I will be adding to our already rather comprehensive list of Christmas goodies over the next week or two. If you’re worried that you might miss one of these great recipes, sign up to receive an email every time there’s a new post here in the Kitchen.

One of my goals during this Christmas season, as it is every year, is to feed as many people as much delicious food as often as I possibly can….all without stressing out and forgetting what the real meaning of Christmas is! I’m ready to dive in! Will you join us?
